I wonder why it says that the HT383E is not compatible with heavy-duty trucks...if I were going to replace my engine I'd definitely shell out the extra money for a 383! Look at that torque!

Ya, that motor is going in my truck when it's time. Almost wish it would give up the ghost soon

it was designed for the program in the 1/2 ton ECM.....they say 444 lb ft with stock intake and exhaust...at the crank of course.....

i've seen 2 on other forums where they tuned at around 450 ft at the wheels, with an exhaust and intake.....and it's happy as hell on winter 87 octane gas......mileage ain't so great, but my foot always in it......and it's not tuned yet.

My father was a fleet mechanic for over 30 years and and any time an engine started giving him trouble he would just swap one of thous engines in and never have a problem again. I too was looking at them. Like every one has said you can't build one for that price. However I have decided to do a LS. It is not much more money for a engine with standalone harness. There are some ancillary costs but over all not much of a price different between a LS swap and a rebuild.

Not trying to sway you just giving you all the info. Here is were I will be getting my engine.

I was just looking at the tilden motor sports page and noticed no 5.7L listed, I'm not in the market to do an engine swap but was surprised to not see one listed, is the 5.7L a dead horse now days?

My son has a 2000 Yukon with a 5.3L engine and if I'm not mistaken, it shows better specs all around than mine engine, the 5.7L.

Has anyone used this engine before? Is it any good? I don't need an engine just yet, but I'm probably going to need one in the next year or so. I'm looking for longevity, not performance. It's going in the wife's 99 Suburban, so it just has to go vroom when she turns the key and hit 70mph.

I've never purchased an assembled engine before; I've always built.

The one you want is this:

That one is the same Vortec crate but with 906 heads (hardened exhaust valve seats) and 4-bolt mains. It's the '1-ton' version. Cam and tuning are the same, just more beef where it might matter to you.

This was my first 'crate' engine, too. I definitely can attest to the quality of this exact engine, as I ordered one about 18-months ago (from Jegs, too) and installed it into my 2000 Escalade. Replaced everything along with it, never had a second of trouble, runs strong, quiet, and without complaining...just what I was looking for. Do it, you won't regret it!
