Well, not a huge update here, but the truck is at 208,500 miles and it's been nothing short of perfect lately. No reason to complain or to threaten selling her; let's just hope it stays this way.
Basically the only "modification" I have done lately is to take apart my tow mirrors and a set of factory 07-13 tow mirrors and then swap the upper glass, blinker, and wiring from the 07-13 mirrors into mine. I was expecting this project to be a huge pain in the butt as I've heard about how fragile the tabs are that hold the mirrors to the base, but surprisingly, I didn't break a single one on any of the 4 mirrors I took out. I also didn't expect this swap to be completely plug and play, but it was. Turns out the factory GM 07-13 mirrors are the exact same internally (in regards to construction, some luxury options vary) as the aftermarket 88-98 mirrors are. Once I had the glass off the housings I simply ran the power and grounds for the blinkers through the existing wire loom. Then I ran some wires up through the kick panels, through the rubber boots, and up through the door and did some simple male to female connections so I can always remove the mirrors later on without it being a hassle. After testing everything out, I bolted the mirrors back to the door, connected and hid all the wiring, and the rest is history.
I believe in the first and only one to do this swap/modification? I've had a few buddies ask me why I didn't just order the 2014+ style mirrors. Simple answer: I'm not a huge fan of the look and they'd look out of place on my truck. Oh, and I'm only $180 deep into my tow mirrors anyways and I've had them for 3 years now.. Haha.
