Did Rear drums with 10in drums and still have a soft pedal

I replaced one side of my drum brakes and wheel cylinder. The other side was perfect so I didn't do it. I still have a soft pedal after bleed with a one person bleeder. I also adjusted the drums and can't seem to find the correct adjustment. They either lock up or the pedal feels e trembly soft. No these are not the self adjusting type. To my knowledge they are a single servo brake system which means they are non self adjusting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you bleed both sides, or all? Having the system apart takes a fair amount of bleeding. I usually gravity bleed.

Of the two types of drums used (JB5 and JB6?) one automatically adjusted by reversing and hitting the brakes, the other by applying the parking brake.

I'd bleed all four wheels.

You should bleed all four corners. I don't know which one man bleed system you used but I have had mixed results with some of those. I use it to flush new fluid through but I still prefer the two person method to finish it out.
All drums self adjust. If they didn't they would stop working after a few miles.

Self adjusters are to maintain adjustment. When doing drum brake work you should still adjust the brakes manually upon installing the drum. I adjust till the drum starts to feel resistance. The drum needs to be seated flat on the axle with either the tire on or at least a couple lug nuts holding the drum snug to the axle. An out of adjustment brake will have a low pedal but not soft. A soft or spongy brake pedal is air in the system

you only replaced one side..you do not do that.both sides are..together.equal.that is like changing out one side of the front brake pads.see what i am saying.any way.sounds ike one or more of your rubber.brake hoses are too old and are. expanding on the inside.they are like a double hose.some times they bust from the out side and some times they get old and weak.on the inside.you push down the brake pedal and it is spongy.soft pedal.some times when the front ones go.the calipers lock up..what you should of done.was.drums turned or new drums.new wheel cylinders and brake shoes both sides.adjust shoes until the drums are.tight to push on.i pull the axles.and replace the axle bearing seals.check the wear on the axle.worn.replace.bearings.pull off gear cover and change.rear oil and install new gasket.one time.i lost a back bearing.from oil rear in oil.on a used pickup truck i bought.people do not ever change that oil out.back there.they just keep adding to the old.change out all your old.rubber brake lines.with new.remember.if you do something on one side..you do the other side..both sides work together.why throw off one side.
