Hey all I'm trying to decide between two motors, for a daily driver 94 standard cab k1500. My question is this I'm buying from summit but debating on either the factory gm stock 350 style for my truck (which I drop in pretty much and I'm done besides a few adjustments) or can the 96 style vortec fit my truck and work properly without spending a load extra to make it work? Honestly I was just curious on the vortec and wanted to know if anyone had done it and what was everyone's opinion on the two motors for a daily driven truck....thanks to all in advance ....

Pretty sure it you just have to buy a different intake for the vortec to work. If the price differance isnt major i would go for the vortec

The Vortec L31 would work, you would just have to get a new intake manifold that would work with the Vortec heads. Assuming your truck is TBI, Edelbrock makes a vortec tbi manifold.

Really, yeah my truck is a 94 Tbi truck, I too seen the eldebrock tbi intake in the summit catalogue a while back ...so it would be a the L31 engine is direct swap into my truck??

Yeah. All it is is a gen 1 small block chevy with vortec heads and a roller camshaft

If you plan on sticking with the TBI injection system you will need more then just an intake. You will need a tuned chip and possibly a new pump to handle the new fuel requirements of the motor. Also the Vortec engine has some other things that are different, no internal coolant bypass in the heads, so you WILL have to address that properly or you run the risk of cracking a head. The Vortec has thicker timing cover with a sensor in it, if you're putting into into a non Vortec engine bay that will need to be addressed. There are different rockers needed for the Vortec style heads as well, your old ones will not work, that may or may not need to be addressed. It's not quite as easy as people here are telling you. It's not impossible but there are some things that need to be done right. Ask me how I know. :D

Different cam gear for the roller cam vortec vs. TBI as well.

That sure is something he would want to look at. OP would want to research on his own for sure to make sure he gets the right stuff and doesn't end up on the side of the road dead.
