So Im in the process of tearing things down to remove a rotten rad support on a 89 RCSB but I can't get the harness for the front lights out of its mount on the fire wall. Anyone had experience with disconnecting any one of these connections without destroying the plastic ?

Those style of bulkheads are a major pita! You have to scrap off the black gooey sealant and then you can pry the plastic open a bit.

Don't have to scrape anything. You loosen the screw all the way; it's captive so it doesn't come out of the block though. Then just keep wiggling the whole block until you can pull it loose from all that tar crap holding it together.

From there, it sounds like you're trying to disconnect the front lights harness from that block as well, so you can feed it through the rotten core support for replacement. That's a little tricky, too. You'll see there are 4 harnesses brought together in that block. The front light harness and the one next to it can be pushed forward as a unit, through the clip that holds the block together. Then in between those two, there's a pair of tabs that you can carefully depress to unlock the two harnesses from each other. The tar goo is in your way but if you pick carefully you'll see what I mean.

That tar crap doesn't come off or away easily. I've seen where somebody on the GM line musta thought it'd be hilarious to use a damn quart of that stuff to "seal" it all together....sometimes I have to scrape it away to get the blocks to come apart.

I hear you that it's tough to deal with, but I've never had to scrape any of it to pull those blocks...and I've pulled more of them than I can even recall. The number would be a lot.

The reason it's there is to prevent water/moisture intrusion into a very important group of connectors that you really don't want corroding.

So following the advice of Richard, I got the offending harness disconnected ! But man what a royal PITA ! Now the only thing preventing me from hauling the whole harness out it one of the horns. Anyone know how to disconnect the leads ? Or I may just cut the three wires and reconnect them later on......
