I started out with Page 1 earlier today, right now I am at page 50 and the little ticker or what ever it's called says there is currently 94 pages.

Anyway I wish I would have known about this forum when I got my Red 1998 GMC K1500 Sierra SLE Extended Cab 2D on June 30 2011 for $3900. I'll bet since then I have put at least that much into it, from needed repairs, to I want that item in my truck stuff, but when all is said and done, no monthly payment now, I like that. Would I like a brand new one? Of coarse but then I would be concerned where I parked so some idiot that isn't paying attention would throw there door open and ding it, at least this way if they park closer than I like, I might share some of my 'VICTORY RED' paint with them.

And yes there seem to be a lot of useful information in here, and this is just one thread, I doubt I would live long enough to read 'it all'.

yea....this thread took off.....tis what happens hen i sitting home recovering from back surgery, LMAO.

i paid $4500 for my truck....got over $15K in it now....i don't want or like new trucks....i have no note, what i want and can take my time to make it mine.......in a year or so i'll have the new rear, complete braking system of my choice and the chassis "de-rusted".

i'm happy with the progress.....even though i didn't want to HAVE to get a new engine and transmission.....

life sure is interesting, hold fast.

Well if you want a Swiss army knife of a tire, I suppose the Duratrac would fit the bill.

I believe in having two sets of tires, a summer set and a winter set. I concur the Duratrac, for a lug tire, is very quiet on the highway, also very comfortable ride, despite their weight. I agree they work well in the dry, but in the ice and snow is what I disagree with.

I have studded General Altimax arctic tires on my FWD car, it is fantastic in the snow.

Not sure if it is just a Michigan law or not, but here studded tires haven't even been allowed to be sold for quite a few years, my wife was still alive, she died in late 2006, and it was before that that studded tires were made illegal to be used. It tears up the road was their biggest excuse.

Which brushguard is that? Dont see it on warns website.

Warn doesn't make it anymore...whatever stock they have, they have......i got my parts from Mary at Truck Stuff USA.

https://www.warn.com/truck/mounting-systems/trans4mer-chevy.jsp

there is no receiver hitch for our year group anymore....anywhere....i see Warn finally took it off their website....my inquiries had them update last year.

i'm going to MAKE the correct part out of the '99-'06 piece (29397)....i already own it, just have to modify it.
my research, with Mary's help, led me to know how to mod the new one to fit our rigs.....pretty simple "cut and paste" deal.

i found the info again....here is part of an e-mail i had with Mary from 3/16.

hi Mary,
thanks for the note....sorry I couldn't call you back, work was insane today......I will try tomorrow, but this e-mail should suffice.
I want to order that new Bax number 39101 as it is what fits my truck. as for the side bed and tailgate covers, let's order the Westin #'s 72-01111 and 72-01191 instead (crossing my fingers).
.....seems like this truck is becoming hard to get parts for, like the Warn receiver part # 29166 I originally wanted.....that's why I ordered the 29397. I called Warn with the number you gave me and found out the old # receiver is 25" long and the new # I ordered is 32" long. i'm going to cut and weld the new one to fit my truck.....LOL. have to do what I have to do, right? please proceed with the order........there was NO warn 29166 on the entire internet! my luck.
thank you Mary,
Bill

Ah durn. Why does everything I like have to be discontinued haha

there are parts/pieces still available.......you CAN build a complete unit, or most of one sans the correct receiver hitch........and they still have the stainless steel version available too, that's the on i really WANTED but was a bit too much coin for me at the time.

ss v. black powder is like $600 more......it sure isn't an inexpensive unit, but i've always liked them......i had the chrome one on my '86 K/5.....that picture has been posted in this thread a thousand times, LOL

he had an '01 ECSB before this, but the rot was getting out of hand......this one just popped up at a shop he used to work at.....this GMT800 platform is definitely an advancement from our 400's......that's progression......i especially like the brakes......the 5.3 ain't got nothin on my 383 though......:Nonono:
