Are the vans really inherently that slow? My V6 truck will run approximately 10sec 0-60 and (high)17sec 1/4.

EDIT - Whoops, mines a Vortec. Forgot this was a TBI thread.

they must be, my yukon i was 0-60 in 9 or so seconds, and quarter mile was about 13 seconds, in no way did i think that was fast.

I should have told you guys that this is a High Top Conversion Van!!! You know with all the bells and whistles inside and out. Hence the name Sleeper Van. And if you, and you know who you are think that 255/70/15 is a small tire you definitely need glasses. That's the same size tires that are mandatory for NASCAR!!! Combined with the almost 3 tons of body and steel and smoking them is pretty dam good!!!

MY MODIFIED air cleaner is done by grinding off the inlet pipe for the pre heat tube from the manifold, riviting a cover plate over the opening, cutting the spot welds that hold on the deflector shield next to the air filter and putting a smooth bore 5" tube straight to the grill for direct cold air. I'm guessing that you just put a open air cleaner on and call it done! I plan ahead and put a little thought and physics into the mix. NUFF SAID.

Head's are going to be aluminum with 200cc runner's. The cam is a special custom grind that is for my eyes only. Everything in steps as money and time allows. I'm not rich like some people who can do anything and everything they want. I'm not in a hurry to get to the end of the project. I also test products for companies which is why I'm trying out some of the items that I've listed. Clearly there are some who appreciate and trust my opinions on products. I don't get paid for this in any way. It's just something that I got into in my time with Quality Control in the automotive and aerospace fields.

It's too bad that Tyler doesn't know how to read. If he did he'd not trash everything I say. Like a 160° thermostat. I'm not going to waste my time or yours explaining it to him. As for "pretty parts" I don't care what they look like as long as they are a good quality and proven part. Hell you can't even see anything on my engine unless you take off the dog house which is a pain in the butt to do. I bought header plugs for the extra clearance and they were cheaper than the AC delco one's! I'm a smart shopper and always get great deals no matter what it is I'm buying. I always get as much information about a part of I haven't had previously used them. If they don't perform well then they go back!

As long as I have to replace the alternator I'm also changing out the water pump with an high flow aluminum one, a one inch fan spacer, a new six blade aluminum fan, new fan clutch, both tension pullies and the March Performance Pulley kit. I also got the matched set of injectors I have been waiting for. I was going to hold off putting them in but one of mine are dripping too much at idle so Like I said it's a pain to remove the dog house so I waited until I got all the parts at once instead of tearing it apart numerous times. I'm still waiting for a few items that should be in next week. When I'm all done I'll post updated 0-65 time's. The next big thing is the posi rear end and the 4.10 gear's. I'll have to calibrate the speedo but I found a site that gave me a how to on adding dip switches to get the correct readouts on the speedo. That way I won't get any false readings for my timed runs. I'm waiting for a friend to weld up a small hole I ground through the SS headers as I was port matching them! It's only the size of half a dime but must be fixed before I install the Headers and the dual exhaust. One side note, my 1990 G20 Van with the same motor has a factory 3" exhaust front to rear and my 95 has a 2 1/4 inch? I don't know why they went with the smaller exhaust. I left the one on the 90 with just a magna flow muffler and cat. It sounds great. The new exhaust on my 95 is going to be true duals without cat's and Dynomax VT muffler's that exit in front of the rear tires. Before anyone says anything about me not running cat's, where I live in Arizona we don't have to go through emissions here! If I ever need to put them on it won't be any problem at all. The VT muffler's are great. They have a Valve or flap that stays closed until you really get on the truck. Then they open up and it's a straight through system! Otherwise it's like having a regular performance muffler. Can't wait to hear them. I'll try to take pictures of the project as it progresses if I remember. It seems like I always think about it after I'm done. I did take pictures of the throttle body before and after. But again I forgot to take a picture just before I installed it. I'll post those when I have others. Well wish me luck getting into the tightest engine compartment you can imagine. For the front of the engine anyway.....

I have add flow matched injectors and an auxiliary fuel pump because of the increased pressure of a new spring for the TBI. I was going to go with the adjustable fuel pressure regulator but figured that I needed 14-16 lbs of pressure which is what the new spring is supposed to be good for. I'll put the pressure tester on it after the aux pump is installed and let you know how close it is. I also put the 1/4 inch injector spacer in with an additional inch and a half spacer for the air cleaner. I can't go any higher because of the dog house frame. The throttle response so far is fantastic. If anyone has any other suggestions for power improvements let me know. Besides the cam and head's I don't want to get too deep into the motor as it has such low mileage with great oil pressure and good compression. I'll keep you posted on my outcome of the project.

Hey Matt Sorry. I did the same thing to my throttle body. You did a great job! Takes a bit of time doesn't it. But it's worth the effort. Good luck with everything.

Moparma, how did you make out with the wooden spacer? Is it holding up? I remember the non metallic spacers from the 70's! Talk about ageing myself. I don't remember exactly what they were made from as there were quite a few different ones on the market as this was a new concept. Just wondering.
