I'm glad you chimed in, I was gonna PM at some point. It chirped less when I disconnected the blower belt, but it was definitely still there. Chirp is gone completely with no belts, but that's when I heard a tapping from the right head. I cut the oil filter open and found shavings, so looks like I'm in for a cam and lifters now. Hoo-*******-ray.
I just saw this thread, nice find!
Until the metal shavings, sorry man.
Any ideas what's causing it, since you have fantastic oil pressure?

I'm leaning toward the 454 HO cam right now, but still need to investigate aftermarket offerings with billet cores. Hopefully the stock rockers are still OK. I can't say I'm looking forward to this because I still need to blast/paint the frame, weld in the missing bits, get a complete bed installed, and tune it before I can call it ready to tow. Its shift patterns are retarded, I suspect it's not stock.

Gonna rip the truck apart tomorrow. Also have a custom cam getting cut from Schneider in CA, gonna be a 212/218 .518"/.527" 114LSA/112ICL on a billet core. I feel like that will play nicer with the blower than the 454HO cam. Basically what I'd dreamed up to be the ideal cam in my head, good to see what someone who knows their ******* from a hole in the ground dreamt up matches right up with this *********'s perceived desires. Since GM is so much more proud of their BBC lifters than their SBC lifters, I intend to replace only the ones that are ****** up. After that, I'll buy the laser alignment tool and reset all my accessories so I hear nothing but nothing at idle at which point I can change ECMs, add headers, and make moar power.

Got as far as the intake today. Can't decide if I was being a ***** or if the truck was that much of a pain. I'll finish disassembly tomorrow (I hope) and then start ordering ****. Monday I'll hot tank everything I removed and in 2 weeks when the new cam shows up I'll slap this garbage back together.

I hope to have the new cam for install in 2 weekends. Probably won't do a thing until I uncork that stock exhaust though. Once it's driveable again I'll steam clean the underside, have the frame pieces welded in, then install a bed. I may go look first though as there's one up in Denver for $1,100. For that money it better be damn clean, because damn clean is what I want and I'm willing to pay for it. Whipped was asking about my battery cable and I kind of found the answer.

That garbage is going in the garbage. WTFO? Seriously? I'll toss a welding cable 0 gauge custom made piece in its place. That junk is atrocious.

To further solidify my pulley misalignment diagnosis, I present you with this.

Not much denying that. Then there's this awesome splash shield integrated with the intake gaskets that caught 90% of the garbage that tried diving into the intake valley once I removed the lower intake.

Gonna hot tank everything prior to reinstall. I also need both oil cooler lines as they're both making a mess of the engine bay. Suddenly I'm reminded of the crap I had to instantly replace when I bought my 1500. Forgot to take a shot of the front suspension, but judging by the way the arms sit it appears to be decranked so the front will be going up to more closely match the rear. I think with some 31-32" tall tires that it will match the ride height of the 1500 on legit 33" tall tires.

That battery bolt/extension is whipple issue. Since the alternator was relocated the wiring changes a bit with the whipple. I went another route on mine and cut the cable on the driver side and installed a factory maxi fuse inline, and spliced the alternator there.

I had the same problem with the tensioner, the alignment is tight on these things. I have mine "trimmed" down with a grinder.
