Hoping this is in the correct place. I have a 1997 Gmc Sierra k1500. I currently have a carbon fiber driveshaft. And last week when I was working on my truck and I noticed that I have a crack in my driveshaft about a foot long. Now since I am not able to afford a new driveshaft, I was going to get one from the junk yard. Am I able to use an all aluminum one, or do I have to stick to a carbon fiber one. Now I would have the driveshaft sent out to be balanced before install. But what do I all need to look for when I'm at the junkyard looking for a replacement driveshaft. Thanks

It is a black fiberglass wrap over an aluminum driveshaft.

The aluminum is paper thin, just a bit thicker than pop can thin. It can be severely weakened from corrosion, especially with road salt in use.

What to look for: a driveshaft that has no separation in the fiberglass wrap.
