Just wanted to share my experiences and help anyone that might be on the fence about attempting to polish their truck. I used a dual action polisher from harbor freight and several lake country ccs foam pad's as well an extreme compound and scratch and swirl remover. I started by clay barring the entire truck, which made a huge difference in itself. Then I used a yellow "heavy cutting" pad with the compound, an orange "Medium cutting" pad with the scratch and swirl remover, and finally finished up with a wax with the red pad. The quick wax was used to condition the pads and accords drying them out. I was more than thrilled with the results. All of the these products were purchased through chemicalguys.com. I have no affiliation with them, they just have a ton of YouTube videos so after watching several of them I went with them. I think I got the clay bar kit from autozone though. Anyway here are a few before and after shots I took during the process.

Nice job, Black does seem to come back nice if you have the patience. Now the fun is to keep it nice. Micro fiber cloths are great for wiping the haze when finished.

It is easy to keep it nice now that we have a house with a garage. Everyone that sees our parking situation thinks i'm crazy; 2014 sierra and a 2010 Tahoe in the driveway and a '98 sierra in the garage. little backwards but @ 276k miles she deserves some rest. I don't drive it very much lately but when I do it is nice, I pull it out of the garage wipe it down with a quick detailer and microfiber cloth and it looks like it was just detailed.

Just like to support the OPs point: you CAN do this yourself, and it makes a huge difference. I used a Porter Cable 7424, and Adams polishers, but the results are the same. I took off 47 years of oxidization and swirls from my 69 GMC, hard to believe it was not repainted.

Awesome. My 91's paint looks like your before pics. I've been wanting to do this! Now I'm sold. Awesome work again.
