Just so you know, it was ridiculously simple. It fits in there like a glove. All of the stampings are there for the shift lever cutout and clutch master cylinder. if you are attempting this swap, give me a shout and I will give specifics.

I have one little problem, though. The trans I was sold was a little worn out. I can't fault a guy who lost his job a little truth stretching when I have $$$ in hand, but it leaves me in a tight spot. Who are the best NV4500 suppliers?

The NV4500 is the trans this truck should have always had, it really livens it up.

Do you do a lot of towing or hauling? I've found that the NV4500 is a very strong trans, but the 3500 is nicer to shift in everyday driving.

well the suburban is so heavy, Im hauling even when there is nothing in the truck. (I have a 30' rv too) I am married to the NV4500, just heavier duty. I really just need a good rebuilder. Is Jasper well thought of in these parts?

The horror stories I've read about Jasper rebuilds have been enough to scare me away from any of their products forever.

Find a well reputed local trans builder if possible.

I'm in the same boat with my NV4500 swap. The donor truck had 200k miles, and I gambled by doing the swap without having it gone through first. Now all of the seals are leaking, the 3rd gear syncro is all but toast, and the input shaft bearing is loose. I'm looking at a High Gear Transmission refurb unit ($997 + freight and core) to swap in it's place VS $1200+ to rebuild mine.

Is high gear well thought of? Their price is attractive, the Jasper unit was sky high.

I've read reviews from guys that put them in Cummins trucks and the hold up really well. I figure it will be fine behind a 383.

Just another update,

High gear knows their poo. This thing still runs like a scared rabbit. If I ever need another tranny, they will be my first call.
