Okay guys, ive seen alot of threads with conversions and questions from tbi to carb or lsx.

My debate is about my 88 silverados engine. Its got a bad ring or two and smokes. Im still driving it till i kill it out at least but within 2 weeks ill be purchasing an engine.

All the engines i want are cammed up etc but have carberautors. It seems no one builds a 5.7 tbi.

So can i buy a sbc 355 or 383 stroker that is complete pan to carb. And simply swap the intake and carb for my tbi intake and throttle body??

Ive put together a few engines and did some performance upgrades but ive never did a top end swap. so some aspects on motors still amaze me.

I dont see in my head why it wouldnt work. Both are small blocks. Im sure 99% of small block intakes will fit any sbc. Maybe not the heads?

Also was curious about all my bolts on up front.

Ac compressor, power steering etc etc.

Ive got all the units and there brackets to fit the next engine so they should bolt up.

A built motor with a TBI will require tuning. Either ebl tune it yourself or take it to a place. The kind of motor you are wanting probably won't even run down with stock TBI.

The motor i am purchasing is a 355 sbc. Forged rods and pistons. And has a 268 cam in it. Pretty lopey idle.

In the truck it made 375hp. But i dont see why it wouldnt run with stock tbi top end.

However if someoen can chime in on wether or not it will work with my tbi stuff let me know i can get a 92 cheyenne 350 tbi with 112k miles for 350$ needs a rear main seal but thats pretty simple

I asked this a couple weeks ago. The answer i got are with the factory tbi will not support fuel wise anything with any real power, with or without a tune. the fuel system on the truck itself is insufficent to run any of this. I was wanting to do the same thing, but i will save up the extra 2k and get a trans and some gauges so i don't have to run anything ecu related on truck.

They make some really sweet self-learning carb - to EFI kits now that are all self contained. I would go that route. maybe stick with the carb for now since its cheap but then save some funds for an EFI kit that will bolt up to the carb manifold and won't be a pain to tune.

I've had 13 or 14 chips burned my combo in my 94. Aluminum heads, small comp cam with 113* centerline for vacuum and I am swapping to carb as I type this. Waiting on a few more parts. I was datalogging, and sending the files to a guy, who was great to work with but it's an OLD f.I. system.....my opinion is leave is 100% stock and run tbi or don't run it at all. For all the time and trouble, I could have had a 6.0 ls.....oh well
