I'm getting ready to swap transmissions in my 99 Suburban. The tranny is coming out of a 98 K1500 truck and has a shallow pan. My current tranny has a deep pan. Can I just swap the shallow for the deep pan? I'm assuming there is no difference between the transmissions beside the pan depth. The 98 and 99 both are 2 piece.

That's no problem. I'll get a new filter for the deep pan. Will the I need to c worry about the dipstick?

As near as I can remember, the dipstick is the same, the level doesn't change, it just goes deeper. I suppose you can sort out what I'm talking about lol.

With increased capacity, and filter drawing fluid deeper in the pan. One also has larger margins of running lower on fluid before it actually starts drawing air. There really is no downsides to the deeper pans except ground clearance on passenger cars with similar trans.

Count the bolts in the pan. My deep pan is a B&M aluminum uses an extension on the shallow pan filter uses 16 bolts in the pan. The factory deep pans have 17 bolts instead and that what will determine interchangeability.
