The stacked plate coolers like that are bad about air pockets if you mount them with the hose pointed down, that is why it wasnt cooling good.
What the freak is up with my transmission temperature!

That trans is going to freeze come winter! I don't understand why you're having so much trouble, I tow over 8k with stock cooling and never have any problems. Truck usually cruises about 165 on the highway trailer and all. You sure the lockup is working right? What are your coolant temps?
