They dont go for anything in indiana. you can get a nice ccsb 6.0 powerstorke here for under 12k all day low miles. But 7.3s are like gold, a nice obs powerstroke with low miles is a dam near 20k truck.
That's how it should be. My brother-in-law bought a 2004 6.0 F350 for 18k. All he's done is thrown money at it and it still has issues and it was "bulletproofed" when he bought it.

It seems like every diesel engine has problems. Duramaxes have injectors, rods, and headgaskets, nothin wrong with cummins engines that im aware of (aside from the 53 block) but dodge trannies are junk and they rust like crazy. Powersrokes just have more problems then the other two. And dont get me started on exhaust fluid, dpf, or egr. All those do is mess things up. The only way i would own a diesel if it was a stupid cheap 01-02 ecsb red dmax with low miles and cloth seats. Other than that i wont own a diesel.

That's true, and to each his own. It just seems like when a company goes through three major engine changes to a single line that company is obviously doing something wrong. I never understood why Ford switched from International to Navistar, it took 8 years for them to get an engine that was even worth owning. I'd agree emissions takes away a lot from engines, and it pushes companies to make lesser engines just to meet compliance. I'm seeing that flow over into the Ag industry as well. That's why I want to find an old John Deere diesel so that I can have a good amount of torque and ignore all of the emissions equipment.

Well finished most the painting in the garage and put the trim back up and put some vinyl mop board along the base on my garage. I only need to paint the section where my tv is now. Hopefully once this is done I can have a good place to work on the motor I have for the truck

After some discussion with a couple mechanic and engineering friends decide to change a little bit about my build future. Instead of trying to drop a 4.5L John Deere diesel in. I'm now going to be making a custom frame for the truck. My design is based off an 80's K20 that will retain the mounting holes for the gmt400 cab and bed. But I will keep the 14bolt full floater in the rear and put a Dana 60 in the front and replace the 4L80E with a manual transmission. Not sure about what transmission to use because it's an Ag tractor engine, but I'm sure a custom bell housing will be necessary. The frame will use square tubing instead of C-tubing. I will post pictures later of my frame design later

Couple pictures of my frame design, I don't have any holes for the bed mounts, no welded brackets for cab mounts or leaf spring hangers. The frame will be made out of 3"x6"X1/4" tubing, cross members are the same. The rear frame is based off GM Upfitter's dimensions for a gmt400, and the front portion is designed around the idea of using 37" center spaced solid axle. Hopefully later this week I will get brackets designed for the cab mounts and spring hangers, and then drop in the model I have of a John Deere engine to see how initial fit is.

I like where you're going with this!

Ps... Navistar is International.... when IH became part of Case IH, the truck division was split and became Navistar.

Get a DT466 mechanical. Also not sure how you're designing the frame, but it will likely need to be heat treated after the welding depending on the intended load. Otherwise you may get cracking in the HAZ. If all its ever going to do is drive up the road unloaded it might be okay.

Not going to put an international in there. I work for Deere and have a much better knowledge of the engines they have, also if I wanted a 6 cylinder I would put a 6068 in. It is not my intention to weld this frame myself. I will most likely have this sent out to be done.
