Good score on the KJ. I'm pretty partial to Jeeps, I have a fairly modified XJ myself (lift, bumpers, rear disc brake swap, etc.) and it also tows great. But between 02-11 the Jeeps with the 3.7/3.8 v6 motors don't seem to perform as well as the old tried and true 4.0 I6 that mine has, they also seems to wear out and have oil burning issues somewhat early on. The new 3.6 Pentastar

for the 12+ seem promising compared to the 3.7/3.8.

Though if you're not hard on it (like wheeling it every weekend/pushing high RPM like most Wrangler guys) it should last and do anything you need, and as for towing, it might have roughly the same rating as my XJ but the unibody is stronger on the KJs vs the XJs. Though I will say I know I've towed 5k if not more with my XJ back before I got the Yukon and it did fine.

Paint on the Tahoe looks good, can't wait to see it running and moving.

I have a yukon also I changed the grille and lights. I dont like the huge GMC logo in the front.
I would of preferred body on frame like the wrangles. Maybe for the here and now there better but there is so much more you can do with a body on frame truck . Theres a reason those old CJs are still floating around with LSX swaps and stuff.
I got the KJ for 400$ from a mother of three. While there was every sticky substance imaginable all over the inside of the KJ from the kids. It was it decent shape still. She didnt know but her electric fan went out and it developed rod knock from over heating.
From everything Ive read the 3.7s are really bad engines. Ive read dont expect more than 150k out of the three seven. But I got into an 05 KJ for 1600$ with a 72k motor. I cant complain.
You know whats cool though , HP tuners plugs right into the 05+ KJs ecm. At least there is some tune ability.

Sweet! You've made awesome progress!
All honsesty since last I posted untill today Ive done that work in like 5 days . Ive been working on the household cars.
Wow, i love it, but i may be partial to red anyways ;)
Reds good color. Matches my interior.

So I still have a non- lighted windshield visor to put on the yukon , the bushwacker style flares , 52in LED light bar, 12k winch, install 380 lph pump with tank , finish routing the cooling system, starter and last load a tune in the updated ecm then we will see what I broke along the way and have to fix.

If any one cares I figured out how to install and mechanical fan without a clutch to the vortec motor.

Thanks ,The pain job is good for what it was to what it is . I didnt want a super expensive paint job . If I go out on a trail scratch or dent my truck I wont be crying because I spent so much on paint. With primer and supply's I probably have 250$ into it.

Ive read there demise is from being over heated. The 3.7 is known t drop valve seats. . But you know what one of there biggest areas that are weak their cooling system. Because jeep offered a clutch fan with the tow package the E-fan doesnt move enough air . Your sister is one of the lucky ones.
Get under neither it with gallon of PB blaster itll stop the rust rot.
The engine swap wasnt hard to do in the KJ . four days in and out.

Any one know what tow mirrors I should get? Suggestions or links?

Get the k2xx style mirror! If they look good on yours im gonna buy a set lol

There are a few different ones for the k2500 . Pretty much all the same style . Different option heated or not led turns signal or chrome outside.
I like power mirrors Im trying to find a set that let me keep my power mirrors.

Got the light bar and windshield visor mounted today. Im not going to wire it until the end because I have so much to do I want to plan it once rather than having a huge mess. Will mount the Fender flares latter .

I want the power with led ones. I think if you got the chrome cap ones and color matched the caps it would look pretty sick.

Yeah, the 3.7 aren't all that great. Which is one reason I pointed out they aren't the best motors but some people do get by with them. I somewhat agree, the wranglers are nice and there frame is a bonus. But I'm also really partial to the XJ (partially because it was my first vehicle) since you can to a ton of stuff to them and they are a lot stronger than people, think even with a unibody. Not to mention if you plate the uni-rails with frame stiffeners they'll do anything a wrangler can do.

That's pretty cool, I wish the 4.0s ECM was tunable. It would make it easier to get more power out of them, especially when they are boosted. As far as I know the only way to really tune the 4.0 ECM is a piggyback ECM, which isn't too much trouble but it's also that much more to work with. I eventually want to boost my XJ some day and it would make it easier if something like HP tuners could program the stock ECM.

Looks great, can't wait to see how you do the fender flares. Did the pictures I sent you of mine help any?

Sure did . Gave me a general idea what there doing with 4 door flares. Im going to bolt the rears on with the door open scribe a line and cut the scribed line with a dremel size cut off wheel. I have no delusions the cut will look like crap so I will put some type of molding on both sides that were cut to hide the imperfection. At least thats my plan.

Cut holes for my BOV and LS6 style maf card, Hopefully I will tig weld them tonight.
