So I've got a 97 burb and the paint is burned and rusty on the top, I'm going back and forth about either trying to rattle car it or to use a roll on bed liner paint. I have a friend who did his whole jeep in the stuff so I know what it looks like, but I'm thinking a flat black roof would look really bad with the Green and gold two tone of the rest of the truck. I guess i'm wondering if anyone has any advice on this.

Neither solution is going to be a permanent fix if the rust has taken hold, just FYI. I had a (cheap) body shop do mine a few years back. They etched all the rust off and re-painted the roof of my 'burb. It's coming back.

I took it to a REAL body shop when it started bubbling back up and got an estimate to fix it correctly. It involves welding in a new roof from GM or a clean one from a donor vehicle, and would cost me about $3K. I'm going to do it one of these days, but I'm saving up to do the whole vehicle at once.

If you're not willing to go that route, I'd just do whatever is easiest. It's gonna come back.

Depends on how deep the rust is. Got lucky on mine and was able to sand it all off to clean metal.

I'm losing clearcoat on the roof in numerous spots. Luckily, no rust as of yet. I'm planning on eventually (hopefully sooner than later), using rattle can emerald green to bring it back.

Just two spots started for me. Figure I won't do anything about it as long as there's paint on it. Would rather do the whole body at once if I ever want to repaint it, but the money just doesn't make sense.

dannymcd maybe try sanding the rust a bit and spraying rust inhibitor on it before you prime and paint?
