So what is the trick on removing the a pillar trim. I am upgrading my interior on my 1988 truck and I have a full set of trim from a Silverado. I have everything installed but the A pillar trim. I am able to get the a pillar loose but not able to get it completely out as the dash seams to be in the way on both sides... Am I going to have to remove some bolts on the dash?

Pull the top out first. That'll help to get those bottom clips to let go. Then it's just up and out away from the dash.

Not sure on your truck, but typically on vehicles I've removed A pillar trim in (mostly newer vehicles), once you've released all of the clips, you just tilt the top end away and pull the whole thing towards the roof. It should then come out.

There are usually tabs lengthwise with the trim that are tabbed down into the dash. That's what releases when you move toward the roof. Shouldn't have to take the dash out.

Wow that was a struggle but I finally got both of them replaced. The driver's side was so tight that I almost broke the old A pillar getting it to pull up and out. Now I just need a headliner.....

What's wrong with the H/L.?
Is the panel board itself messed up, or is it just the material falling down?
Prob #1 = Yea, find a new H/L panel.
Probe #2 = Recover the one you have now. Not hard to do. Can be customized to suit at the same time, too.

My 88 truck did not have a headliner when I got it and the only headliner that I could find at the salvage yard that was usable was out of a work truck so it does not fit the truck now that I have installed the silverado trim inside the cab... I can get a new headliner from Rockauto but I'm going to keep looking at the salvage yards for one that can be recovered...

Silverado trim. You mean all the plastics around the doors, the long 'B' pillar panels & the big one over & under the rear window, etc?
That requires the larger of the two styles.
Find one with the material falling off, then negotiate! Lol!
As long as the panel itself is good. Check that the corners, around the visors & the rear edges are still good.
More than likely, the 4 Velcro tabs/strips along the front edge will seperate from the panel & remain stuck to it's counterpart on the truck. Make sure to get those. They can be re-glued back onto the H/L panel.

Yes. My 88 had almost no trim at all... I now have all of the trim installed. I'm going salvage yard hopping this week looking for several things to include a headliner board and the dash piece that goes under the steering column.

Hey Sewlow, I picked up a usable headliner from the salvage yard yesterday and removed the material. I ordered foam backed suede headliner material and should have it Thursday. I read your writeup on how to replace the headliner material... This will be my first one so any last minute tips before I get started on Friday???
