I recently had the a/c compressor, dryer, and orifice tube replaced because the compressor was leaking Freon. It still does not blow cold. I checked the vent temp and it was reading about 62 degrees. Freon is still showing full and I went in and cleaned the evaporator grille out and cleaned off the condenser. The accumulator is getting good and cold and the firewall side seems to be cold too. When I first take off from a light it will get colder for second. In the mornings before it gets too hot outside it cools well enough. Any thoughts?

Could be an issue with one of your blend doors in the dash. My Suburban is doing similar things at the moment and I know mine are shot. Specifically the recirculate door is what I'm suspecting, I bet it's letting outside air in all the time.

I'll have to check into it. I know that when I hit recirculate, it does get colder and there's definitely a sound difference.

I checked it out a little today. I have a definite change in temp and sound when recirculate is pressed. I did notice the other day that I ran over something particularly smelly and it blew threw the vents even with recirculate on. I did notice that when the air is on I can feel cold air blowing out of the firewall by the dryer under the hood. Almost like back pressure from the vents. Not sure if this is normal or not. I think I'll break down and take to an a/c shop.

Let us know what you find out, I'm still betting it's the blend doors. Mine still move, just not like they should.

Checked it out today and it's closing all the way. I'm going to take it and have the ac shop check levels, since I'm using a basic gauge on low side.

I had a similar issue not too long ago. It turned out to be the temperature blend door actuator. Mine only turned half way. If I adjusted to full hot it adjusted accordingly. If I adjusted to full cold it would go back half way and stop. It is the one behind the ashtray in my 98.

I'll check it out. I assumed it was working because it would go to hot.

Got the truck back today. Mechanic said there was air in the line and a little crud in the orifice tube. Figured the backyard mechanic that did the compressor swap before didn't flush it good enough. Cost $95 for him to change the tube and recharge. He did say that since it was originally an r12 truck the condenser and the heater core have bigger flutes inside and they have to play around with the charge until they get it right. I dunno, but it's cooling good now.
