Ford guys. Only a ford idiot would give you so much hell about your Chevy. Lets see how a 98 ford compares to your 98 chevy, if you can find one that is still on the road. Ford says it has the best sealing truck, but combine chevy and gmc sales and who sales more trucks???? Isn't the ecoboast fords top performance truck? lets compare it to chevys top performerance truck for 2012, the 6.2L 403 HP will out pull the ford, out run the ford, and has way more performance up grades that the ford, sense the 6.2L is the corvette - camaro engine. So the only advantage ford has is gas millage. Your truck is awsome, and you could easley up your performance and run circles around that ford. There is a ton of after market performance parts for a 454.

Of course Ford made a 3/4 ton truck in 1998. Wouldn't Ford's hot truck in this generation be the raptor, or some other SVT truck? I have to say, GM's hot truck lineup has been severely lackluster for quite some time. They have an all black truck now? Ummm Ford did that in the early 90's didn't they? (Think "Nite" edition). About the only recent cool GM truck I can think of lately is the mid-00's SS 6.0/AWD truck, and IIRC, ther AWD system wasn't anything extra special, was it? The "steel" truck commercials make me laugh. I liken them to a commercial for "horse" around the time of the advent of the automobile. There was nothing to compete with the SVT Lightning truck or rumble bee or SRT8 or whatever it's called. There is nothing to compete with the Raptor. There is/was nothing to compete with the Power Wagon. Lame if you ask me. GM has to send trucks to aftermerket upfitters to have a lifted 4x4, and around here, that's 4wheelparts, who are some of the biggest bolt-parts-on monkeydicks I've ever seen.

My opinion, there is absolutely NO POINT in selling two of the SAME trucks with different badges. Save design/production/manufacturing $ by ditching either GMC or Chevy, and MAKE ONE TRUCK. Then, maybe GM Detroit (or Sri Lanka, or Kuala Lumpur, or wherever the hell they are) could take their heads out of their ***** and go back to making a SOLID, bad ass truck, that shames the offerings of FoMoCo and Mopar. I don't want to stretch this too far, but maybe they could make them in the US of MF A (fat chance).

Just walk in with a set of chains and say lets hook them up! I'd bet he'd shut up really quick.

I had a guy with Daddy's newer GM truck bash mine like that. The next day he started flapping his gums again, I just said, "lets go! I'll grab the chains and we'll have a pull off". He said Ok, but then took off right after work. After I called him out the next couple days, he ended up quitting.

SlowBurb, The Reaper is GM's competition for the Raptor. Sadly, it isn't readily available. I have only seen 2 on Dealer lots. And the front end isn't very attractive.

About 6 months ago when I was working in the salt mine, one of the guys that was overseeing us was a ford guy. He has a 2012, 2013, or some where in that range, f 150 with a 5.0L . I asked him why he didn't buy a ecoboost. His answer was that they won't pull crap in the real world, because they just don't have the torque. I said, I thought they were rated around 10K pulling weight. He said yes they are, but they have no power pulling a large load. The 5.0L just had more rotating mass, and that equals torque. He is correct about rotation mass, and torque. A 454, has a lot more rotating mass that a ecoboost. Hook up a chain to that ecoboast, and you will pull him around all day long. If it was me, I would just say in a very calm cool voice, hey when every you are ready, we can hook a chain to the back bumpers, just like twomanymontes has suggested.

yeah you can end his BS easy. get a friend with a video recorder, or phone, whatever. film up a shot of you dropping a chain at his feet, & throw the gauntlet - put up or shut up. if he declines, post that video online & bring it up whenever he opens his fat mouth.

So, the good news is, he is in the market for new tires. So I think the day he gets them on, I'm bringing a chain to work, and telling him he has no excuse anymore. And his truck is actually rated at 420lb-ft, and mine is rated at 410lb-ft. And he is also rated at 365hp, where I think mine is only rated around 305hp (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). The thing I've got going for me is weight, and like said early, rotating mass. I won't be disappointed if I lose, but I'm not the one concerned about d!ck size here. He is. And his tiny rear diff will pop long before mine. If, and that's a strong if, he goes for it, I will video it and post it for you guys. Even if I lose. I'm not too proud. I love my truck either way, and still wouldn't buy a v6 Ford over it

Those trucks you mentioned were built back in the day when the manufacturers were run by the number-crunchers.
They stopped production of the Hemi, back in the day, because it cost $5.00 more to build them than the 440! Even if the Hemi was the superior choice, the $$$ profit was the be-all, end-all.
Sure, $5.00 over a production run of a 100,000 is a lot of money. But even still...$5.00???
Now, post-bail-out GM, as are most other auto manufacturers, are being run by engineers. Do you think that the LS engine series or the C7 of today would be around if the Corp. was still run by the bottom-liners? Those guys would of never let anything like that be unleashed into the consumer marketplace, let alone spend the R&D to develop such projects in the first place. That tech then trickles down to the rest of GM's offerings.
Ford & their aluminum bodies? The Insurance Institute said it took longer for a local Ford dealer to repair an aluminum truck than an older steel one, and the aluminum parts cost more. The institute says the repair costs were 26 percent higher for the aluminum-bodied truck. Plus the additional costs to the dealership for the equipment to do such.

After a front-loader full of landscaping stones dropped its load into the bed of each truck, the Chevy held up noticeably better than the Ford. Even a simple drop of a toolbox punctured the Ford’s bed.

Even Honda veers away from using straight-up Alu.

I do agree with the statement about having 2 duplicated trucks produced under different banners, though. I see that as competition among themselves. Why?
But then, GMC stands for 'Greater Made Chevy'! Lol!
