hi im very new here hoping some one can help me out
I have a 1997 5.0 vortec manual 4x4 (mg5) 1500
im going to drop in a 1998 5.7 vortec out of a Tahoe
I called my buddy at the local chevy dealership and he told me he wont
be able to reflash the ECU with out the correct VIN for the truck im making

so any one have a 1997 or 1998 VIN (not sure what year I should use or if it matters)
for a 5.7 350 MG5-manual 4x4 EXT cab with cruise and 241 manual transfer case
Please and thank you kindly

Lol...that one's a little bit tougher. Just not that many manual trans offered in these trucks and it seems like less in the Vortec era. I would say the same one I gave earlier should work; truck has no idea whether it's the light duty or heavy duty 5 speed, just that it's manual instead of automatic. HOWEVER...that VIN I gave was for a '98 (as requested) which has Passlock. Won't work for this guy because he's a '97, which was last year without Passlock. :(

I've got a VIN for a '96 with manual trans but unfortunately it's a 7.4, not a 5.7.

I'd try the other suggestion posted in that thread about cruising ebay and you might get lucky. Should be able to use a VIN from a '96 or '97, nothing earlier as it won't be Vortec, nothing later as it will have Passlock. Or, instead of having the dealer flash the PCM, ask any of the aftermarket tuning guys as this is the kind of thing they probably deal with on a regular basis.

Autotrader fail lol. That's all I did was search for 97's with five speeds.
