Update: I've started the truck by jumping a wire in the fuel pump relay plug , worked for an hour then died ..

Don't mean to bring up an old thread but I've had similar issues with my 88 TBI, done about 8 pumps in 2 months, some lasted a day or two, some lasted for weeks. Changed filter, relay, cleaned up the ground. Was told it might be high fuel pressure killing my pumps but being a youngin and having little experience with electronics and fuel injection I'm pretty stumped. Any ideas?

From the Inside at the yellow plug the wires were burned.

Thats the thing that sucks with our trucks . There just at the point i there life where everything is starting to rust and decay, break down.
At least you found the problem pulling gas tanks sucks ass.

The relays are bad about the pin sockets loosening up causing a loose connection which causes the relay to get very hot and will make it intermittently shut off, killing power to the pump. It'll fire back up when it cools which adds to the confusion. I chased my tail on this for several weeks on my truck, put in a new pump, same problem. I pulled the relay and noticed the plastic cover was slightly melted around a few pins, put a new relay in and it worked well at first, but started doing the same later. Inspected more and realized the relay was a little too easy to push in and takeout. So I took the pin sockets and tweaked them so they'd fit on the relays pins tighter and problem solved. So if you're having unexplained fuel pump problems or intermittent problems when it dies and later cranks when it dies touch the relay, if it's hot to the touch there's your problem!
