I have what seems to be a common problem with my truck. The other day the speedo, tach, shift indicator all quit and it seems to be in a limp mode. I have no power at fuse 20 and power at fuse 4 so I changed the ignition switch today with this one

I should have guessed it would not fix it. I have not checked the check engine light, seems this part fixed it for everyone else. Has anybody else had this problem and it turned out to be something else? I did tilt the dash a couple months ago to put the air doors in, could this have crimped a power wire? Please help.

I feel retarded but I'll tell what I found. I must have checked the fuse above 20, 20 has power on the white wire but blows the 10 amp fuse after about 2 seconds, so I guess I have a dead short. I'll try to see where those 2 pink wires go from a manual but if anyone knows please chime in.

I can trace one wire to the cluster, the other one the book says goes to the vssb(vehicle speed sensor buffer), where the hell is this thing, i have looked and searched everywhere.

It should be right with the ECM, behind the dash if you have an 90-95 or whatever year they started using them.

I have a 1997, since this happened about a month after tilting down the dash I'm going to tilt it down again and trace those pink wires. I can't see both of them if I don't and I can't find where the second one even goes.

I don't beleive Vortec trucks have a VSB, I'm fairly certain it's all done in the block box, uinder the hood.

I believe you are correct, now to find where the second pink wire goes. I took a test light and found the first one to go to the middle of the cluster. Maybe I will be able to see it better with the dash tilted back again, I am starting to believe somehow I pinched a wire when I did this before. And it doesn't help that someone hacked in a security system before.

I can unplug the trans main harness and start the truck and the fuse does not blow. I paid 1800 dollars last year to get it rebuilt and looked and there is 40 miles and 25 days left on the 12k 12 month warranty. They will be getting a call Tuesday, i guess one of the switches has shorted out in the tranny.
