Living in E. Tn, hardwater is the bane of all my glass - at home and on the cars. I use Bar Keepers Friend (Oxalic Acid) for a first pass, rubbing it in with a scouring pad. I then use LimeAway (Sulfamic Acid) combined with a magic eraser. I don't know if it was the chemicals or the elbow grease but it removed several years of soap scum on shower doors when we moved into a new house.

Vinegar is also good, if you smell carefully, many automotive hard water removal products are apparently just gelled vinegar.

I took off 6 years of hard water spots (our water is so hard, it comes out of the tap carrying a switchblade) on our glass shower door with it when we bought our house.

I do use a product called hydroview to treat them after and that gets me 2-3 months on the shower door, and 6-8 months on the outside windows of the house before I have to clean them again.
