Issues with my suspension. Got an alignment but my tires still aren't straight.

The shop should have never touched a thing if any of the front end was needing to be replaced. They just took your money and if you complain they will point to any worn out/damaged parts.

Caster angles are what really give you a hard pull, and if those are screwed up you wouldn't be able to see it. By the sounds of it though, you have some toe and camber issues as well so you'd want to correct those or say goodbye to your tires.

I'd take it back to the alignment shop and have them check it and see if things are still in spec or if they are out again. If they're out again then you can start trying to figure out why.

I always get the alignment shop to dial in as much caster as possible.
Gives the truck have a heavier feel in the steering, but it also makes it want to come back to center more readily.

Yep. More caster = better return to center and a heavier feel. Cross caster = pull hard to the side with less positive caster. You definitely want them close to even.

So why did they even do the first alignment if, essentially, the entire steering system needs to be replaced?

All alignment shops are not created equal.

When i was running my shop, before i even hooked up the laser heads my guys always check steering and suspension first. ALWAYS! Because as a shop if you align it and get it "straight" and the customer comes back and it isn't "straight" then your married to the vehicle. The customer isn't going to be okay with hearing they need all those parts when in the first place they probably needed them. This is the responsible shop owners point of view. i don't want to do your car again or give you free stuff, but at the same time we want customers happy and wanna come back for things. So sounds like a inexperienced tech did the work or a shop who just doesn't care.
