So now my truck is running again I was going to start ordering parts injectors, fpr, plugs, plug wires, and maybe a fuel pump. So I helped my cousin rebuild his 99 454 vortec and he put 4.6 Ford injectors in? is this a good or bad idea? because I found some reman ones with a 5 year unlimited mile warranty. Also what are good plugs for the 7.4?

Yeah starts hard warm and fuel pressure drops to 0 after the key is off in less than 10 min.

If you can, try and hook a shutoff inline with the gauge so you can shut off one side to help determine if the pump is feeding back, or an injector is stuck open before just guessing both

I would try replacing just the FPR first to see if that helps.

Though if you narrow it down to the injectors I recommend new.
I just put in new bosch injectors from five o motorsports in my 454, they work well but weren't cheap.

I can get 8 injectors for $100 so I just figured do everything the truck has 250k on it 51k that I put on it myself and my luck the one day I would do one or the other then the next day the other will give up the ghost.

The factory "multec" injectors are known to be crap. So if you're in there replacing the FPR which requires pulling the upper intake, you're right there at the injectors...sooo.....

Regarding those Ford 4.6 injectors it really depends on what their rating is. It may be that whatever ones he chose are capable of performing at the duty cycle needed to feed the 7.4, don't know without more info. There are a number of injectors that were originally meant for Ford applications that work well for the Vortec 7.4 so it's totally possible he picked ones that will work.
