Id say do a simple leak down test before throwing anymore money at it. also Id make sure the timing is correct as well when you put that new distributor in.

Does the fuel Pressure hold or does it leak down?

easy way to see if you have stock injection is yank that throttle body and peak inside with Mechanics mirror, you can also see if theres leaks.

I thought I read somewhere about a tech service bulletin about vortec engines using iridium plugs to set the gap at .040... Cant find it right now though of course.

Ok, I looked up the gap thing, there's a TSB about Delco Iridiums supposed to come out gapped at .040. Spec for the engine is .060, they were .060 out of the box, I just tightened it down a bit due to having 200k on unknown components. At any rate, it was the same before and after.

It holds fuel pressure as well. It starts easily hot, cold, it usually sits for days until I pull it in to work on it, or out to test my latest repair. It always fires up easily, except the two times I got it wet under the hood.

leak down test Is rather simple to do, at 200k its a good idea to do one. right.... Id make sure the timings on point when you get your new distributor. since you have suspicions of the intake being off before you came along.

isnt trouble shooting fun?:pp:

Well I consider most of this stuff maintenance, the thing was neglected terribly before I got it, and hacked when it wasn't neglected lol. So I'm pretty Zen about it, and when i get pissed, I just stop and look at a new K2500 long enough to see the price, then I go home and buy more parts lol.

I did a leakdown test when I brought it home, it was only 6% on average, the high was 8%

What about a stuck open EGR valve? Maybe a quick vacuum test too if you haven't already.

I did have an EGR code awhile back, I cleared it when I cleaned the MAF to clear that code. It hasn't come back yet, but I also haven't driven very far or long. I'll check that tomorrow.

BTW, I did clean the EGR, it was fine. I took the TB off, and the rear bolt tower thingy was seized like always, anyway, it has stock injectors, that is probably the issue.

I tried to drive it to work today and it kicked out of Overdrive and stayed in third the rest of the trip. Converter locked and all that fine, so, I think it may be mechnical.

I'm ordering a Tech II clone, I'm over shooting in the dark.
