I just replaced all four shocks on my suburban and the rears have a coilover spring around them. The springs are obviously removable, but the new shocks, which are for my truck, don't have the perches. Other videos online seem to show the same type of shock as the new ones I have(no spring) Is this something the PO added? If so, what are the old setup originally for? This is my wife's kid hauler, no towing. Any benefit to putting the springs back under?

Thanks!

That's a aftermarket part supposedly to handle more weight in the back. You don't need coil overs.

Those are definitely just part of those specific shocks. Common on certain models of Monroe, etc. Trash them, you don't need them.

Thanks guys! The old shocks were a pain to get out with the springs blocking access to the top bolts.
