It should still work. The bell housing and transmission should be the same whether it's behind a gas or Diesel engine.

Nope.
It was indeed some carb'd POS 350 4bbl from the late 70's or early 80's that was swapped in. "Runs great" said the ad. "Runs like ****" said me. Not that I cared about how it ran beyond getting it back to home base but I need to be able to sell it to hopefully break even or not lose too much on the swap and I think I'd have a tough time selling what was once a diesel truck but is now a gas engine with all of the mediocrity that was the late 70's. Ran on 7 cylinders and had lots of valvetrain noise and above all else I think there was something goin on with the input shaft of the trans. Would vibrate pretty bad in neutral with the clutch let out if you revved it but was fine with the clutch depressed & revving. Back to the drawing board.

Other thing is I'd really like the donor to be from a gas engine without that dampner. I didn't research to see if that just comes off and can be swapped with the gas style bits or if it is a different output shaft altogether.

Anyone have a parts truck they'd like to sell me?? :)

Well shucks... I hate when ads never turn out to tell the whole story, especially when you have to travel to figure all of that out. GL on the search for another donor. I think that's the way to go because everything you need is right there.

Thanks, we'll need it. We're certainly keeping our eyes peeled. 2WD stuff is rare around here for whatever reason.
