So im planning on buying my uncle's truck in the next year or so. He has been the 2nd owner of the truck since 2003. 1st owner was my dad but he has since passed away. Obviously this truck has a lot of sentimental value to me. After i heard he might be trading it in for a newer vehicle i told him to give me a price. $2500. Its a 1995 Silverado 1500 with 240,000 on the clock. Recently had the transmission replaced. Had the a/c compressor replaced as well if im not mistaken. Had a respray a few years back. The paint has some scratches and chips, but its a work truck. The only thing im worried about is the high mileage and how long the motor will last me before the rings and seals start to wear out.

was that the trade in offer? once they go over 200k I dont go far past $1500 and id be surprised if he traded it in for a grand. unless the dealer plays with the numbers, and gets him somewhere else

I think it'll easily go over 300k miles if its been well maintained or mostly highway miles. your still gonna run into random parts taking a **** more often then not. at least thats my experience with vehicles over 200k.

Agree ^^. If the engine was maintained, it should last a good while, unless you are into doing burnouts at every stop sign/light and beating the crap out of it. Probably will run into suspension issues before engine issues. Trans rebuild is a good thing. Those generally tend to go out way before the engine would. $2500 is a lot for that many miles though, but that also depends on overall condition of the vehicle.

Big D- Not the trade in offer. I meant as in buying the truck from him before he trades it in himself. The truck has some highway miles. He drove about 30 minutes to work and 30 minutes back home for about a year. Ever since then its been mainly city miles. Very close to home though. About 5 minutes there and 5 minutes back.

jkeaton- The engine has definitely been well maintained. He really takes care of his vehicles, and so do i. The vehicle is in good condition.

I wouldn't be afraid of a truck with that kind of mileage if it was maintained properly.

My dad still has his '97 W/T he bought brand new. Original engine, transmission, currently at somewhere around 310,000 miles - and that's using it for work it's entire life, not to mention it had it's fair share of hell from me when I was a stupid kid.. When/IF he ever decides to retire it I am definitely keeping it.

Without seeing it, it does seem a little on the high side, but if its been maintained and everything is in good shape, then its not terribly far off considering the new trans and recent paint. My wife currently drives a car with 246k and one of mine has 225k, and as long as you keep up with regular maintenance, there shouldn't be any issues, but you still have to expect some nickle and dime stuff.

I've bought a few vehicles that were traded in to my work, the last was the red/silver truck Dylan has, I got it for $480.

Exactly lol, I don't beleive theirs a dealer out there who will give up more than 1,000 on a 20 year old, 200k mile vehicle.

When I owned my lot, I didn't take, or buy anything, I couldn't mark up 300%
