ok so my fellow Gmt400 Gurus. i have been proposing an idea of using the spindle/bearing/brake set up off a 4 wheel drive of our body style. a fellow GMT400 fan of mine has multiple C and K series 2500 Suburbans, after much lifting and removing of tires on multiple trucks of his and doing measurements, on his stock 2 at least, and they seem very very similar. i was already sold on using the upper arms off his because they use a tubular like factory arm.

now lets see where this gets me.

my truck is a 90 Reg Cab Short Bed
Light Duty brakes
8.5 rear with yukon axles and yukon mini spool

This is a project not for the faint of heart. I have been doing this swap for approximately 1.5 weeks in the afternoon when i get home from work. It requires reworking the lower control arm to accomodate a different style of ball joint, the LCA has to be sleeved to allow the downward facing ball joint stud. Next either the upper control arms have to be relocated further out on the frame rail, or custom longer uppers have to be fabbed. You can follow my build, its entitled nbs brake swap almost complete

So no one has ever tried using 4 wheel drive spindles off like the 92+ trucks with the floating rotor style? I've almost got all my Moog front end replacement parts to rebuild the steering piled up. And I don't see sinking the 203 on the SSBC slotted kit from Summit when I'm going to get, what I'd believe, the same results due to rotor size and thickness of the stock light duty brakes. But I have looked into your thread.the dealership I work for lifts all of their 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive trucks and I have a stockpile of the original spindles so that part wouldn't be bad but I don't know if I'm ready to get into all of the things that you are considering this is my only means of transportation back and forth to work.

The gmt400 platform for 2wd and 4wd has a totally different style of knuckle. They can't be interchanged with each other. The control arms are totally different, ball joints are totally different. Won't work unless you refabricate the lower control arms and either modify the upper brackets or use longer upper arms.

Yea i understand now why thats a no go. damn if something that seems so close makes it so far from working. i gave in and ordered the SSBC Rotor and Pad upgrade kit and ACDelco bearings and wheel seals. Also grabbed my inner and outer tie rods and sleeves while i was at it. almost have it all now. just have to order the tubular upper and lower arms to slap it all together one weekend and get it aligned
