seriously have never been able to trust anyone but myself to work on my vehicles, I even had a guy change my oil once just because I was getting tires, I figured what the hell. its already on the lift..... maybe 500 miles later I smell oil burning off the exhaust, im thinking gat damn it, why is my truck leaking oil, park the truck turn it off, cant find the leak, no leaks anywhere, start the truck, look under the truck, there it is!!!! Right where dumbass crushed my oil filter with a pair of channel locks, theres a pin hole leak.... I was baffled, what moron was taught to use channel locks at an auto shop? how does one logically think its ok to crush a brand new filter while putting it on?

I've used channel locks once to take an old filter off. But never to put one on. Some people I swear

Holy ****...

I've done all manner of things to get filters off, but that's where it stops. Filter back on by hand. The only time that doesn't apply is with cartridge types.

Yea, I assumed everybody whos ever turned a wrench on a car knew that you twist em on hand tight, not twist on hand tight then grab channel locks, crush the **** out of the filter, and tighten it some more.

anyways back to the truck, I've been chasing A high idle ever since I flushed the radiator and swapped out the hoses and thermostat, I thought for sure it was the Fail safe thermostat already failed and the truck was never warming up, the temp guage shows it running a lot cooler, So I pulled the thermostat tonight expecting it to be stuck open, but its not, so I put that back together... im kinda lost, theres too many variables to know if its really running cooler because I also swapped out 2 brittle temp sensors above the headers that I broke... one I believe on the driver side is for the guages and the passenger side is for the electric fan, Should I replace the one near the thermostat housing?

this little guy was barely holding on the driver side, just about every thing needed to hold it on and make a good connection is thrashed. Hoping the new connector make the idle go down, but I aint holding my breath.... Gat Damn TBI motor is giving me headache, Put a little flame out, and another one sparks up elsewhere. and this new High Idle problem might keep me from passing smog.

took her Down to get smogged, so I can finally make her street legal today, I was worried about the Idle being to high, I ran her hard up and down the freeway trying to get her as hot as possible, and it being 100 degrees out, really didnt even hit 200 degrees according to the temp guage, I dont know what temp the electric fan kicks on, but it was running... Idle never came down to a level I liked. Apparently its still within the parameters to pass at the smog station, there computer says she idles at around 885 Rpm, which I think is relatively high..... I dont know why I was so worried, she ran pretty clean, way better then last time

last thing left after I got my Tags was one of the brake lights were out, so ran down to the autoparts store for bulbs

every set of headlights ive ever bought for these trucks either have condensation or fill up with water, I dont know why, but im over it.... worst headlights ever, damn light output is pathetic.... I drill a super tiny hole on the bottom of the light, its worked for me, keeps it from condensation constantly building up...

Finally got a chance to put this Freshly rebuilt TBI on. It was rebuilt at SPR Performance http://www.sprperformance.com/ it was also bored to 54mm (for future endeavors) and Oil impregnated bushings installed in the throttle shafts, new IAC and a new TPS sensor was included, also put in a new adjustable fuel pressure regulator, a new spring and set the fuel pressure to 14 PSI. as you can see its a very clean rebuild, I couldnt be happier.

I was gonna throw this on sooner, but the Spacer I had originally purchased was incorrect, so I had to order another one.

The only real purpose of the spacer is so I didnt have to yank off the the intake manifold and have the intake manifold bored to 54mm so I took my die grinder and burr bits and worked on the top side to open it up to 54 mm and transition it to 50 mm, leaving the bottom part of the spacer virtually untouched.

I tried to get all pro, and used a sharpie marker and a needle to outline the throttle bore.. it kinda helped.

I then started doing some research, I was looking on TBI chips website and what he did to an intake manifold I also watched a you tube video he linked about creating an air gap

and said what the hell and did it myself.

you can buy the spacers wide open like this as well, but I found it to be more expensive.

yesterday I was able to finally take the old one off

been driving her around the last couple of days, and its been much better driving quality, hammering the throttle at dead stop to 60mph, I could feel the power fade and come back during certain rpms, it doesent do that any more, smooth acceleration through out.... the choppy Idle is also gone, I am very pleased I did this. it probably needed the rebuild. I broke the TPS clip installing the plug in end, so off to go order one of those now....

Glad that it worked for you.

You can definitely see where those bigger butterfly's start crowding the space used by the three hold down bolts, it would be safe to say you can't go any bigger.
