I'm to the point of upgrading my factory speakers since my stock front door subs are showing they're age. I have the door panel off and just saw the driver's sub is cracked/torn. I've been putting off a speaker upgrade simply because it was still working and sounding good with my Alpine stereo and Kicker sub.

I'm good with stereos but not good enough to make this purchase on my own so I'm asking for help.

What I'm looking to get is a new set of subs for the front doors and possibly tweeters (depending on the opinion of you guys). I'm not going to professional grade but just something over stock like a simple Kicker setup, for example. Cheap, but better than stock.

I've been looking through Crutchfield and have noticed the sub/tweeter kits have crossovers and I'd rather just not deal with that if possible. I've got enough wiring going on already.

Thanks for the input, guys.

If you go kicker don't get the cheapest one crutch field has, I believe they are the DS speakers(same stuff off Walmart shelves) but what I personally have are the CS and they are perfect for over stock replacements. I've never replaced my tweeters before so I can't comment on those but I do recommend a nice 10" sub for under the back seat, and I highly recommend the Rockford fosgate R2 from crutchfield which about $60 but it is soooo good!

He says he's already got a sub...

If you don't want to deal with crossovers then you're basically ruling out component systems with separate tweeters entirely. Pick some nice 6.5" rounds and 4X6s (both coaxials) and call it a day. You can try leaving the factory tweeters hooked up in addition to your new door speakers, but it might cause impedance issues and just generally lower the output of your front speakers. I'd just disconnect them immediately.

Look for something with real rubber surrounds, not foam. I usually recommend Polk's DB series for a budget option, but they're getting hard to find. I think it's because they're in the process of releasing new models. These Infinitys caught my eye, though. Pretty impressive specs on their new Reference series.

If you go with Kicker, nothing less than their KS series IMO. Everything below that tier has the crappy foam surrounds that like to give up. Stay away from Rockford Fosgage. Also generally just try and avoid no-name companies. Like anything else, you get what you pay for.

No no, I didn't want to go that cheap like bottom of the barrel. I'd rather pay an extra $50 to get a better product. I'm a firm believer in getting what you pay for. That's good to know though, thanks.

I'll look into the Infinitys after I type this, I've never had a problem with them.

Good to know about the Kicker series. I honestly didn't know about the foam in the different series with them.

I've always been on the fence with RF. They do great with things like boom boxes and whatnot. I've heard a few decent systems with their subs.

@df2x4 - Finally got on a computer. I think I'm going with those. For the price I think those are gonna be my best bet. Seems like the best bang-for-buck.

Let us know how those are. I haven't had anything by Infinity in a long time, but I've never been disappointed with them really. Probably a great option for those who don't want to replace the factory tweeters in the 95+ interiors.

I'm certain that the sound won't come through since I recorded it on my phone and most people don't have decent computer speakers, but here's a test of the front door speakers in. I don't have the rear pillar speakers in yet. Overall very happy with them. Great sound over stock, which is what I was going for. Not the best I've heard but for what I paid, they're phenomenal.
