So i have a 88 k1500 with the 700r4 and I'm trying to decide to rebuild or just get a whole new transmission. I was looking at the transmissions online but every single one that was reasonably priced was junk and the only ones that were good were high. Could someone point me in the direction of a good 4x4 700r4 that won't break the bank? I have the stock 350 so don't need anything that can handle a ton of power. Any help is much appreciated!

That depends on the budget, you can get a Goodwrench for ~1500, Oreily's has them for like 1200, they're all over Ebay and Clist for ~800.

You could remove it and take it to someone to rebuild. I had a blown up 2wd 700r4 and a local buy rebuilt it for $350. Depending on if you want to upgrade parts in the process, would be a little more.

Many shops that do mail order transmissions will void the warranty if it's not installed by a 'Certified' shop/mechanic.

Yeah, that was Monsters excuse for selling me a Trans that failed in 100 miles.

I'd also recommend a local rebuild if you have someone reputable nearby. Always the better option if you have the opportunity IMO.

Having the trans rebuilt at a local shop gives you the opportunity to pick and choose the parts you want installed, giving you the opportunity to build a more reliable and stronger transmission. Probably will cost a little more, but a knowledgable trans guy can steer you in the right direction.

Yea my mechanic is great. He's always done what he said would do and never had to take nothing back! If you live in lower eastern tn or northern ga his shop is Harrison Automotive.
