This frame below on the left was cut at the seam you are talking about, where the c-channel goes into the boxed section. Dad did this because his centurion crew cab needed a frame and he wanted to stay 6 lug so he found a crew cab 3/4 ton and put the 1/2 front on it. It worked out really well.

Sorry I know this thread is a month old and the truck is probably together, but do you have any close up pictures of the splice area? I've been wondering about people doing this exact kind of work and wondered how the welds looked up close. Definitely a neat trick if someone wants a sort of "heavy half ton". If I'm not mistaken the 4x4 frame rails are the same in the front boxed section between 1500, 2500, and 3500. I've looked at a 3500 fairly close and couldn't see any visual differences other than the upper a arm attachment points are farther apart, but the actual frame itself seemed identical (of course I'm also dumb, so you need to factor that in). :jester:
