Went to the Carlisle GM Nationals this past weekend. I spent 8 hours per car detailing and making sure they were absolutely perfect. Started off using Meguiar's gold class soap, then clay bar kit, then compound, polish, and carnauba wax. Of course I did all the polishing of metals and interior cleaning.
The show was smaller than normal and a lot HOTTER. Carlisle Events changed up the voting this year and allowed those who entered cars in the show to vote. No more professional judges who know what to look for. Only Chevrolet owners could vote for Chevrolets. Buick owners could vote for Buicks and so on. Both my father and I were entered in the 1973-1979 Nova class which was comprised of four cars. My '77, my dad's '78, a '79 and a '74. The 1974 won first place, I won second, and the 1979 placed third. I believe the '74 won solely because of a clean engine bay. My interior was much nicer and bodywork quality was evenly matched. Not butt hurt or anything. The judging did give an advantage to those who have "flash and flair" and not to those who kept the cars "original" much like my dads since the engine bay was covered in 35 years of oil and grease. Overall I had a great time and even bought a new grill and bowtie for my truck.
