hi all,

i recently acquired an a.r.e. branded camper shell / truck topper setup for my 1998 silverado.

the back glass needs to be replaced, it appears to be one solid piece of glass. the dealer wants almost $700 for a replacement and says i should hurry up and buy one. i told him for that price go ahead and get me two of em. he flinched first.

what say you guys? any way i can get this done cheaper?

Depending on the popularity of the topper, you might find one with a good glass, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

On specialty items, the price is also reflective of that.

It's not a windshield that fits a truck, suburban, tahoe, crew cab for 10 years... with millions of them on the road.

I haven't researched the brand, but it's likely a discontinued window sitting in a warehouse. If you want it, you will pay. If not, there is always duct tape and plastic, or Lexan and a jigsaw.

No problem.... I use to have a truck shop in the late 90s early 00s. I use to buy these from a place called Blacksmith which was an aftermarket distributor . I think they where about 300 back then and we charge 50 to remove and replace. There is a lot of screws. But it's easy.... :)
