The last 9011/9012 bulbs I bought did not have glare dipping on either type; they were Sylvania-Osram. I'm running all high beam bulbs behind the Anzo low brow housings with built in glare caps. The throw pattern is a joke, and the brightness is depleted terribly. Im chalking this up to the glare caps and the shape of the reflector.

Again I'll remind that the real tell for me was putting the same, exact same bulbs in my wife's 2005 Suburban, and seeing that they were like goddamn stadium lights compared to mine.

This is all motivating me to start looking for different headlight housings. Thankfully I haven't trashed my OEM's, because I'll probably use the mounting plates from them with whatever I buy.

You can get Phillips brand HIR's locally at Home Depot, for pretty much same price as ordering them online. Of course you'll pay tax, but you'll have them in-hand and from a local, trusted source.

And for what it's worth, all the 9012 (low beam) HIR's I've seen do not have the coating on the tip that a regular halogen 9006 has, which IMO is a problem for retrofit use in a housing with no "glare cap."

So far the only aftermarket headlight for these trucks that I have found to be worth any damn are the long discontinued TYC elegante headlights. They aren't as good as a projector but they are considerably better than OEM and other aftermarket stuff I've seen.

I've found one of the best solutions to lighting on these is to also run a set of driving/fog lights.

I'll be getting the LMC Sealed style headlights that use regular bulbs. Hope is they are decent, coming from LMC.

They're Anzos. The set in my Suburban is from LMC, red truck are Anzos from Amazon. Same packaging and everything, they're identical. Last I checked the Amazon ones were quite a bit cheaper.

EDIT - Or wait, are you talking about the quad beams?

Yeah, the quad beam sealed style.

Right on. I've thought about going to a quad beam at some point, but with the primary intention of just using the brackets and installing some Trucklite or equivalent LED bulbs in place of the OEM stuff. Would probably be over $1K to do properly, though. Haven't looked at the prices in a long time. @Ruger_556 did a similar setup but with the W/T single headlight grille. One of the only aftermarket bulb solutions I'd ever consider, honestly. Those bulbs have some weird, sciencey looking reflectors that actually do a good job of controlling the light throw of the LEDs.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say a bad thing about the OEM style quad beams, though. They're probably awesome even in 100% stock form.

Here's a link to the thread with the W/T lights I was talking about.

They are, I recommend them over the composites if you like that style. For your reference, here is most everything you need to know about the quad headlights.

And my use of HIDs in them.

Much after making that thread, I now have a set of LMC lowbeams in the bumper of my 98 Dually, with 4,300k HIDs to use as driving lights/fog lights. They work very well.

You aren't going to fit a trucklite headlight or most any other aftermarket housing in a set of quad headlights - they are a small, odd size. Check out the thread I linked above.

The quad 88-89 headlights, in OEM form (sealed beam) aren't much better than OEM composites - they suffer from the same bad pattern and low light output, although they do not get yellow. The LMC or Bosch headlights are the way to go upgrading them, IMO.

W/T grilles with a trucklight LED is another great option, if you are ok with the W/T grille. The Trucklite headlights are pretty darn good IMO.

Nice! I have seen your thread about the quad beams, it had just been so long that I had completely forgotten about it. And yeah you're right, I could have sworn I'd seen some drop in LED sealed bulbs that would work with the quad beams, but I can't seem to find them for the life of me right now.

Pretty sure nobody is making OEM quality LED's in the small quad beam size. Trucklite, Maxxima, and I think even Sylvania have some nice ones in the larger size you would see on a base model grille.
