I have wanted to put a different air intake setup on my 96 chevy k1500 for a long time. the issue I have always had is just looking at the intake it looks pretty efficiant already. I have been looking at volant that keeps a air box and draws air through the fender still. I also read black bear performances comparison of air intakes and it looks like the volant did give a small increase in power. but I keep thinking that it looks almost exactly what I have now except for it has a more direct flow to the motor. has anyone ran these intakes??

my next thought was to maybe fabricate a airbox similar to the volant setup. I think that it would be a fun project. and my last thought was to just replace the accordian style tubing with smooth tubing and also replace the 90 degree corner by the air box with the same type. what do you guys think??

in the end I would just like to do something a little different maybe make it look a little nicer and gain anything that I can along the way. $200 is alot for a volant intake however if I have solid proof that I'll gain something out of it then it would be worth it. are there any other options? thanks

I have had the K&N and now the Volant on the same truck, it looks cool.......that's all I can say.

Keep the stocker and just buy a good filter.. use that money for a tune, that's where the gain is gonna be....

A Volant is going to be the only aftermarket intake for these trucks that will offer any kind of a performance increase over stock, and not by much. The stock intake flows just fine for these engines. The extra airflow from the Volant really isn't going to help you unless your engine is heavily modded already. X2 to what Steve's Chevy said, just run good (anything but oiled-gauze like K&N) filters in the stock airbox and leave it like it is.

I have one on my stock 97 k1500. No noticeable Increase in power that I could feel but I had a junk exhaust at the time and didn't know how badly it was holding the truck back until years later. I did the volant because I bought the truck with some cheap ass looking autozone chrome pipe, small open element oiled filter that was zip tied to the inner fender. It looked like ****.

I also ditched the provided volant oiled filter for an AEM dry flow due to my uses of the truck.

I should also mention I now have stainless shorties and a well tuned exhaust system. Truck runs great.

id run a paper, long run same price as your fancy k&n or aems but with better filtration. plus your maf setups the engine has constant volume and the maf takes that into account. your fancy filters just eliminate most of any noise deleting effect a paper has in its nature. i prefer my engines clean though so paper it is!

I think that anything you do will be for looks only.

My S&B intake used to make awesome noises under load. But then I added my tune and headers at the same time, and now it doesn't make any extra noise (still not sure why, lol). Otherwise useless, I'm sure.
