I have a 1996 Silverado 5.7 Vortec 4X4 4L60E trans, The truck just rolled 52K original miles and I had the transmission fluid and filter, front and rear diffs, and transfer case changed to amsoil. I was wondering if I should change the engine oil to amsoil also? Amsoil is easily available to me and the same cost as Mobil 1. The only thing holding me back is the truck has had Mobil 1 5w30 in it since new from the original owner and ive been using Mobil 1 5w30 also. I have no complaints with the Mobil 1 synthetic but since the cost is almost the same for Amsoil should I change or just leave it be? I'm hoping to here from some guys that have actually had experience with Amsoil products.

No experience with Amsoil, but lots with the Mobil 1. I've had good experiences with Mobil 1 in both my Mustang, and so far, in my Silverado. On a long trip, it would be easier to source Mobil 1 than Amsoil, although I suppose you could take lots with you if you anticipated an oil change en route.

I don't see any issue with switching, you're going from full synthetic to full synthetic.

20$ a quart motor oil in a stock small block? Have seen them run 300k plus miles with bargain shelf oil on 10k mile oil change intervals. Its your money though. Do some research on uoa's and oil ingredient breakdowns, most of what is "better" is all about marketing and hype. mobil one and amsoil are both great oils but will not yield you any better results than many others. I run rotella 10w30 diesel oil for whatever its worth.

Agreed.

To the original question, I see no harm in switching either.

Personally I'd use whichever is cheaper and easier to get. Which would probably be the Mobil 1.

(If I were in your shoes and had to pick one of the two. I stick to regular old Pennzoil 5W-30 in both of my trucks.)

Thanks for the replies that's kind of what I was thinking im doing 5K mile oil change intervals and I have no complaints from the Mobil 1 I just figured since I swapped everything else id give it a whirl but for the extra cost I didn't really know if it was worth it. I to see these trucks running around with 250k to 300k miles on beat up work trucks so I think ill be more than fine sticking with my Mobil 1

Good choice. Mobil one makes good oil, for a decent price.

amsoil is amazing oil if necesary fortunately fo ryour roller cam eetc engine you probably dont need it. mobile 1 is ok, pennzoil has an entirely different refining process but really nowadays you can switch any oil you want without a downside.
