I took my 2500 truck with the 5.7 vortec to an 1/8 mile track and ran a 11.54 and consistant 11.50s. she has 204xxx miles. is this slow? I feel it did alright for a 5000+ pound truck

Never timed my Suburban and I can't remember my V6 truck's 1/8mi time, but it did mid 17's in the quarter relatively stock.

My 97 5.7L(350), runs 15 flat in the quarter mile. The internal engine is stock, but I have done a bunch of mods without tearing into the engine. EG cold air filter, shorty headers, dual exhaust, old school glass packs, gutted cats, cold thermostat, throttle body blade mod. and it has been tuned. And maybe a few other things I am forgetting.

According to the calculator, it's a 18.12.

"slow", is a matter of perspective. If you have a 10.5 Outlaw car somewhere, then yes, it's horribly slow. If you're comparing to other twenty year old 3/4 ton trucks, then it's probably fast lol.

One of my good family friends, just left the house in a 2001 Trans Am. Mostly stock, LS1 tuned, cold air kit, and SLP exhaust. He just bought it over the weekend. He used to have a 2000 That had a lot more mods, cam, heads ect. and it ran mid 12s in the quarter mile. The new to him 2001 TA he just bought runs mid to high 13s in the quarter mile. A brand new Camaro runs mid 12s in the quarter, A ZL1 runs around 11 in the quarter. the HP in my 97 is around 325. My friends TA closer to 400, a new SS Camaro 465 and a new ZL1 652 HP. To get my truck to 11s, I would need to be pushing around 700 HP. When my 97 was new, it ran 16.5 in the quarter mile. Rear end gears, and traction has a big effect on track times also. I looked at a 1/8 to 1/4 mile converter. I also did 1/4 to 1/8 conversions and they all give me a 1/8 mile time of 9.60, @ a 1/4 mile time of 15.00 @ 16.50 1/4 it would be 10.59 1/8 mile

Your right. That is not bad at all for your truck. I though it may help you to understand just how fast even a 15 second 1/4 mile time is on the street. A turbo Hyundai Sonata runs around 15.5 A regular new 1/2 Ton Chevy with a 5.3 runs around 15. Most regular cars today are between 16 and 15.5
