For those that don't know, it is a bad year for us to play with trucks. Jeanna is actually in surgery right now for a brain tumor. It will cost a far amount before this is all over. We bought Ruby before knowing what was going on. Obviously my sweetie is more important than trucks so Ruby's build may be scaled down a bit.

Ruby finally came home on the transport last week and really brought up Jeanna's spirits. I had to go to the coast for work and I passed a pick and pull that I'd never been to before. They had a Escalade that hadn't even been put in the yard yet. I inquired about some parts and was astonished by the prices. I couldn't justify buying what I wanted with Jeanna going to the hospital. My dad called later that night and asked what I did with my day. When I got to the Escalade story he said that he wanted to buy the parts for Jeanna. We got the console, front seats, front door panels, rear door wood trim, factory fog light switch with panel and 4 Suburban/Crew door panels.

The bug hit and the price was right. The is Jeanna's chassis donor. It is an 89 GMC C1500. It has a 350/700R4/3.42/G80 and 380,000 miles! Everything that was needed was going to be rebuilt so no big deal. The truck only has 1st and 2nd gear but that will get it the 30 miles or so home. We paid a whopping $350 for it.

Looking forward to seeing more progress on this build!
Sure do wish my heavy pig could do burnouts like that; but almost 7,000lbs and a worn out 350 isn't the best recipe for power.

But judging by the marks it seems like it's still pretty spry for a worn out old truck with a crippled transmission; decent score for $350 though!

Awesome!! If she's going to part out the 89, I'm interested in the headlamps (I bought some from another member, but usps lost/destroyed the package).

They will be for sale but it will be a couple of weeks before we start.

So I have to tell you guys the rest of the story on the donor truck. The guy that we bought it from bought him from his landscaper. His landscaper had been driving around in first and second gear only for the past year towing a trailer. The landscaper invited him over for Mexican food and Coronas. This guy came over had a great night and the next day looked outside and saw this truck. He called up the landscaper and asked how he got home. The landscaper said you drove the blue truck. The guy said well I'll bring your truck back to you and pick up my truck. The landscaper said you don't remember buying that truck off of me last night? The guy called a couple of buddies and confirmed that he bought that blue truck off of the landscaper the night before when he was drunk off his ass and then proceeded to drive the truck home. Feeling bad this guy decided to keep the truck. It has only moved one time in his ownership and that was to move it to the front of the property to sell it.

When I did my initial inspection under the hood I had seen that there was what appeared to be rust water all over the passenger side of the radiator, the shroud as well as the battery. I had noticed a new water pump,a new fan clutch and what appeared to be a new radiator. When I dumped it for the evening at our Medford office it was dumping coolant out of the radiator cap. It turns out that all that was wrong with it was just a bad radiator cap but they kept throwing parts at it and dumping stop leak in it trying to solve what I'm guessing they were thinking was an overheating problem.

At my Medford office.

With the radiator cap from Pearl. This is back at our house. Pearl is in the background.

Once I got it home I loaded it up full of trash and put the damn thing to work. I even took our chocolate lab Chloe, out for a doggie date. A couple of spicy chickens without lettuce from Carl's jr. and a ride in the truck made her quite happy!

awsome story! I can't say that I've never bought something after having a few too many and forgetting about it until someone refreshes my memory, I've just never drove any of them home, lol.
