if it wont even stay running its something else. low amperage could mean low compression but thats normal on an older engine. I would start with checking fuel pressure, its free and easy. Then if thats normal I would do an ignition tune-up if it hasn't been done it recently. New cap, rotor, plugs and wires. And check the compression while you have the plugs out.

Ive ran into 4 occasions where my truck had a hard time starting, 1st time, the spider injectors were leaking and it wasnt building up enough pressure, Swapped out spider injectors, ran great. Second time, fuel pump got weak and couldnt get the PSI high enough to oppen the Injectors. swapped that out, ran great.... 3rd time spark plugs were wasted, (bosch, dont buy em)... 4th time it was the ignition control module, it was the only thing I didnt change when I gave her a tune up. sits right next to the Coil.

my guess is ICM

Doesn't like starting when warm? Sounds like the starter is getting old. When it heats up with the engine it expands creating more friction. Starter is probably weak. Mine did this for a long time and one day it just popped and shot sparks out under the truck.
