So I recently inherited my new to me c1500 with the 4.3.
Had a terrible exhaust leak and a few other things once I stuck a water pump in it.

This ended up being the culprit. A $10 part from oreillys costed me a grand total of $180 when it was all said and done.

These are the manifolds after I took the y pipe off.
Time to bust out the drill and tap.

The old y pipe was garbage so I got a new one. $100 bucks. Then I got a couple other parts that could use a change.

Long story short I broke a couple tools and got pissed but it got done. Way quieter now. I ripped the cat off while I was down there. So it sounds pretty good at idle.

If you need to do this cause of a leak. Be prepared and do it when a shop is still open. Lol

Yeah I can honestly say I don't ever want to do that again. It seemed to help with performance a little bit. I'm hoping to see an improvement with mileage.
AAAAAAND of course I get home just to find out the radiator is cracked. nice.

To try getting a 20 year old manifold bolt off without a torch is asking for broken studs. If you don't have a torch and can get it to at least move you need to either use an impact and go easy or if using a hand ratchet you need to loosen a turn, retighten spray with penetrating oil loosen some more then retighten and spray and just keep repeating ,You could get lucky.

LOL glad I live in TX, I don't miss fighting rusty parts at all, I just removed the manifold studs off a 89 S10 I had to do a head gasket on, they came off like they where installed yesterday.

Texas member here as well I'm sure glad we don't get snow here or in Houston or my truck would be a rust bucket with salt that they put on the streets.
