I have a noise coming from front driver's wheel well. It only occurs when I coast, i.e. the noise goes away when I accelerate. Can someone point me to a thread where this is discussed or give me some possible sources of the noise? It's a 2wd truck

Ummmmm... lift that side up and give it a spin and also wiggle it back and forth....

What does the noise sound like?
What are you diving?

It sounds like a rattle can, or spray paint can. I drive a 98 C2500HD. The noise goes away when I have pressure on the accelerator or cruise it set. But start to brake and coast and you can hear it

So when I lift up the front end I can rock the tire from side to side if I push at the top of the tire. Then when I spin the tire the noise is still there.

Ok... if you still can not fiqure it out.... bring it to a shop and have them take a look.... it's rotational... and you have a bunch of stuff loose underthere if you can move the wheel back and forth noticeably.... obviously you seem to need a step by step on looking to see if stuff moves the way it shouldnt..

Don't take this the wrong way but this is why us mechanics tend to not like engineers(I see you say you are in your profile).... can design stuff all day long but don't have a clue how it works and not able to fiqure out how it works... front ends are not that difficult. I'm not trying to make this sound mean but, bring it to a shop and have them look at it... alot of small shops may look at it and tell you what it is for no or very little charge.. then by the sounds of you not being able to pin point it you may be better off having them just fix it aswell as you do t seem to be to mechanically inclined by just reading this post.... I could be wrong and if that's the case, sorry... but this ain't rocket science.....

Only 2 things rotational up front by the way... wheel bearings and your brakes... could be as simple as a rock in the hubcap.... but that's a simple check and I :assume" you thought about that and checked already...

If you where in my neck of the woods I'd check it out for you but I'm in Texas andit is a few miles away from your place....lol..

No I figured it out. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I might be missing. I figured it was my bearings, but wanted some reassurance. Sorry if I don't come off as mechanically inclined I have a bit of knowledge about what's going on but have only taught myself what I know based off trial and error. Thank you for the help

I was wondering if you knew about the outer bearings on this truck? I can only find part numbers for outer bearings for the 7200 GVWR and 15000 GVWR, and I have the 8600 GVWR. I found the part number for the inner bearings. For this model can you only get the outer bearing with the brake rotor? Or is there something I'm missing here? I haven't taken it apart yet as it's my daily driver. Any information would be great.

So I replaced all the wheel bearings, races, and seals; I made sure to repack the grease in there tight. I still have a noise that is coming from under the truck. Could that be the carrier bearing causing that? It still only makes the noise when I coast until I get below 20 mph then I can't hear it. I know it's not the pads or rotors because those are all new. Could it also be the u joints or the drive shaft center support that are going bad?
