Hello guys. I recently inherited a 1994 c1500 silverado from my father (who inherited it from my grandfather). I am very interested in doing a high4 mod and I've searched and read so much. I'm kind of suffering from information overload. It's my understanding that my truck doesn't have headlight relays so i cant do the easy diode mod. I'm trying to figure out if it's best to add 2 relays (one for high and one for low) and then use a diode or if it would be better to use a third relay. I'd love to know the pros and cons of both.

At some point I do want to upgrade to hid lights if that helps. Thanks guys.

All i did was splice two wires, one from my high beam hot wire and the other from my low beam hot wire, and run them to a relay. I added another wire from the relay to a ground, and a fourth wire with an inline fuse to the battery.

x2 up top^

To put this in the simplest terms possible: I spliced my high and lows into a relay, and added a ground from the fender wall, and a connection from the battery terminal with an inline fuse to draw direct power. I was like you at first, all messed up and scared to do it, but after studying the 4hi Mod post and getting the materials and studying some more by laying out the materials where they would need to go, I learned how to do it and haven't had any trouble. It's one of if not the best mods I've done. Here's the link, just do your homework and practice setting everything up.

Buy the $20 kit off ebay. Plug and play for the lazy old farts.

Edit:

I'm running HID's and I hate them. I know, I know, bad idea for stock housings and the funny thing is I tell people that all the time. I'm tired of getting high beamed every time I drive at night. I'm going back to stock halogen bulbs for the lows and leave HID's in the highs. With the led light bar on now, it puts off plenty of light so I don't need HID low's.

Lowering them won't correct the scatter from the HID bulbs. There is no cutoff using stock housings, so I'd have to point the at the ground...:anitoof:

Or, just f*ck it, high beam them if they high beam me:evillol:

I ended up making my own harness from scratch. I made it with 2 relays and used male and female headlight connectors. It is completely removable so I can switch back to stock and I wire loomed it all.

I bridge a diode from pin 85-85 (which used the old headlight wire as a signal to power the coils of the relay)

It is working beautifully. I think I got a 200-300% increase in brightness.

To be clear the reason I went with the full relay harness was because my model (94 c1500) doesn't have headlight relays. Basically the headlight wires go from the fuse box up the steering column, down to the headlight switch back through the column then through the firewall and out to the lights. And it's like a 18-20 Guage wire. After 22 years it's losing power and I didn't like the idea of burning up my switch.

The relays throw a full 12-13v to the wires.

I fused them of course (15amp fuse for each at the moment. I figured it was best to be conservative)
