I keep reading everyone doing 4wd to 4wd or 2wd to 4wd, but who has actually stayed 2wd doing a cummins swap?

I've been trying to find more recent swaps to see who did using the conversion kit from diesel conversion website. I'm trying to get est on home much the extra parts will cost besides the donor truck.

Yes I know everyone sys go lsx but reasons I am trying to talk myself out of it is:
Everybody does it, when yes that is awesome because anyone can give you info on any trouble you have, but when benefits are what?

Lsx swap from what I have read
Better mpg
More power
Updated fueling
Easier to mod
So many to choose from lol

Cummins or Duramax
Better mpg
More power
Great towing with good gas mileage
Modding can be done

My real question is this besides the swapping portions of needing different odds and ends, overall which is better? Duramax, Cummins, LSX?

Your answer will probably be depends on your lifestyle...so this would be for a suburban, that will be bagged, that will retain 3rd row seating for family vacations, but will also see fun on the track.

Sorry for all grammar issues. And thank you for your answers and knowledge. I've thought of keeping the 350 but the three other engines do far better only benefit in staying vortec would be the relatively cheapness of parts.

I've toyed with the idea of a 12v cummins swap - I'm sitting on the motor already.

As you said DCP has a kit that will allow the cummins to bolt right up to our rigs. However, assuming we are talking a K1500 here, you'll want to get 3/4 ton torsion bars (1/2 tonners will work, but you'll sag a bit and bounce a bit more than you'd want) and seriously beef up the tranny to hold up to the power of a cummins (if you mod it at all). Then'll you probably need a 14b rear end at some point, as the 10b will be the next weak point. The tranny cross member will need to be moved back, and the driveshaft shortened as the cummins block is longer.

You'll then want to get adapter bushings to be able to use all the sensors from your gm motor in the cummins, so that your gauges work.

Getting the motor running is the easiest part, as I believe it only takes 4 wires. Lastly, putting on a body lift will make your life much easier - otherwise you'll need massage the firewall and tunnel (with a sledgehammer).

Then there is stuff like fuel pump, exhaust, radiator, etc.

Addressing all the weak points, buying the conversion kit, and rebuilding the motor... you can expect to spend between $7-$10K on the swap.

If you have the time and money, I would go that route every day of the week and twice on sunday.
Next would be an LSx swap.
Last would the duramax.

Now diesel conversion specialists has the kit that takes care of sensors and what not. You mainly need the extras like lift pump and water to air cooler for space.

I have a C1500 I know it will cause weight issues, but I wasn't worried about it because I am bagging it. I know I'm going with big bag bags up front anyways. So weight will be covered.

I was thinking of finding a 4l80 and swapping it over, preferably from a burb so that way length meet up. Also if you use the kit you don't have to move your trans.

Like you said the cost comes down to donor truck, kit (3-4k), a lot of vacation time. My main thought for doing this is, the burb is heavy as **** and I figured it would benefit better gettin a diesel for fuel and power.

I'm fighting the idea of an LSx because as you mod it becomes extensive to drive lol where it's been proven perks have modded diesels and still don't kill their wallets filling up.

Did you guys get anywhere with this ?

I've got a LWB C1500 2WD I'd love to put a ISB into, I know space is tight but here in Oz I don't have access to the parts etc you guys have.

I'm looking at running a 6 speed Allison behind mine

When my 350 kicks the bucket ( probably be a while ) I've got a cummins swap planned. 4bt though being that mines a c1500. Weighs a lot less and can still put out big torque and mpg numbers, will fit a lot better too.
