Pretty sure they just help keep the rubber in place on the window seals.

I always thought it was part of the window guide. So that hen the window goes up while driving, it keeps the window from pulling out away from the door.

But I may be wrong.

Window guide for sure. My 454SS pass window will not go up at over 70mph, because the wind moves the glass just enough to hit the guide. If I slow down below 70 i can put it up just fine. It has been that way for the last 25 years, and everybody thinks it is funny that I don't fix it. Nothing is really wrong other than a minor adjustment. It adds character.

Maybe this is what happened years ago on the passenger side of my red truck. One day I just happened to notice that it was closed on the rubber right under that plastic guide. It had folded the rubber and permanently warped it from sitting in storage unnoticed.

They're proud of that rubber piece that runs through the window channels, think the dealership charged me almost $150 for the part.

Anti theft device. It's there to keep somebody from pulling the window out enough to pop the locks.
