whats everyones wheel size preference? based on looks alone. I have 17's on the truck right now, they look good. but the wheels are old and ready to be replaced. Getting new tires this coming fall so looking to possibly do new wheels then as well. Was thinking of going down to a 15" wheel. thoughts?

Not necessarily. I think 15-16's on stock and 15-18 lifted

18s or less (preferably 15-16s) with 33s or bigger and 15-16s with stock tire size

To me the shape of these trucks call for some sidewall. I haven't seen many '88-'99 trucks I like that are riding on low profile tires. I'm biased though, because I don't like low profile tires on much of anything that doesn't run 150+ mph. My opinion, a good 3 inches of sidewall is a must.

For non-lowered/non-sports truck:

16s on anything less than a 33" tire
16s-18s on 33" to 35" tires
18s on 35"+ tires
20s on 40"+ tires

IMO.
