Im a firm believer a good motor will run on anything. Place I used to work bought all 3/4 ton chevys, 454's and now 6.0 liters. Changed the oil every 5 to 10k miles. Those trucks lasted 3 to 400k miles on an engine, only ever got rid of them because the rese of the truck would fall completely apart. Owner would buy 99 cent oil and the cheapest filter. Not that I would suggest this, just sayin.

Agreed, I see it often myself. When your truck poops, it's not going to be because you didn't spend 12 dollar's a pint on pink unicorn blood infused oil from the dark side of the moon.

Uhhh, SkyHighColorado, synthetics have more ZDDP than conventional oils? Is that scientific?

I am not being a smart ass, but you can read those if you want and see what you think. You could also find out the zinc content of your Dino oil and compare it to the oils in the first link?

I concluded that synthetics tend to have a higher zinc content than Dinos from information I read.

No Donkey maneuvers here. You should read more before you consider yourself informed.

Wow, and it only took four pages to deteriorate to dick-waving this time.

What is it that's so toxic about oil threads on this forum?

It's everywhere, I'm on a lot of forums, and every time the subject comes up it goes sideways rapidly lol.

I just try to stick with facts. Opinions are ok, but if they're conveyed as facts, they're not always understood to be opinions.

I ran the 99 cent stuff from Walmart in my autocross car, for years. I had 300k miles on the car, when I sold it. It had 200k when I bought it, though. It was a little 325i bmw. I removed the Rev limiter and bounced the needle off the peg every race. I sold it after about 6 years to some guys who wanted to keep racing it and they used it for drift competitions. It's still running around central Texas and I sold it in 07. The trans went out and was replaced but the engine is still going.

Just change the oil every 3-5k and it will keep turning. Even in my old karmann ghias and bugs, I would buy cheaper stuff, being a broke soldier in the army, back in the 90s. I have never lost an engine from oil issues.

whats everyones thoughts on switching to synthetic after 180,000 miles of using conventional? Just curious. Im not thinking of changing, because the conventional has been great to me, but curious your thoughts on any issues changing to synthetic...
